Coronavirus update – June 2020
The Government’s advice that “Everyone should avoid gatherings and crowded places, such as pubs, clubs and theatres” means that Maldon Film Club has cancelled all screenings for the foreseeable future.
The Film Club committee has been regularly meeting online and aim to resume screenings as soon as is feasible and safe. Based on members’ votes we have produced the list of films we hope to screen next season (see http://maldonfilmclub.uk/2020/06/09/films-we-hope-to-show-next-season/).
As for the resumption of film nights, the committee will be guided mainly by two imperatives: the safety of members, as informed by UK government advice and adherence to the terms of the film screening licences from the distributors. One example of the restrictions that these entail is that, even if larger indoor gatherings were deemed safe, current social distancing requirements will reduce the capacity of the Town Hall to around one third of our average audience, which would result in many members being excluded from film screenings.
Normally we would hold our Annual General Meeting in May to allow members to have their say in electing the committee and to view and discuss the Treasurer’s Report. We have decided not to attempt to hold an online AGM, and consequently we plan to hold an AGM when we next meet for a film screening, whenever that happens to be. We have now decided that this will not be until the start of our 2021/22 season, hopefully on 7th September 2021.
The committee wish you well and looks forward to welcoming you back to film screenings in the not too distant future. Please continue to send your views and comments to email@example.com.
