A darkly comic drama in which Mildrid Hayes (Frances McDorman), whose daughter was murdered and no culprit found, decides to paint three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at the town’s revered chief of police (Woody Harrelson).  When his second-in-command
(Sam Rockwell), a violent, immature mother’s boy gets involved, battle with Mildred is joined.
