Based on a true story. In 1947, Prince Seretse Khama of Bechuanaland (David Oyelowo) met and fell in love with London office worker Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike).
Their proposed marriage was challenged by both their families and the British and South African governments. South Africa considered it intolerable that a bi-racial couple should rule a neighbouring country and threatened serious consequences if the marriage went ahead.
