I, Daniel Blake

59-year-old Newcastle widower Daniel Blake has recently suffered a major heart attack. His doctors advise him to rest, but he is not deemed eligible for income support.

He needs perseverance and courage in appealing to the humiliating, bureaucratic welfare system, and to stand up for both himself and his new  friend Katie, a struggling single mother.

The modern workingclass hero, perhaps?

Won the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2016.
