Young widow Lady Susan Vernon visits her in-laws’ estate to wait out the colourful rumours about her dalliances circulating through society. Whilst there she decides to secure a husband for herself and for her eligible, but rather reluctant daughter Frederica. In doing so she attracts the attentions of three men, with great complications.
