In the Heat of the Night (Classic film)

Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier) is a black detective who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation in the Deep South after first being accused of the crime.

Finding the killer proves difficult when he is constantly thwarted by the local sheriff Gillespie (Rod Steiger). Tibbs’ life is in danger in a highly charged, racially explosive environment, but as he and Gillespie join forces they discover the shocking truth.

Won five Oscars.
